Tennessee Wesleyan University started the season being the only undefeated team in the country (21-0), with a total collecting of 527 points, as they jumped from No.5 in the preseason poll to be ranked No.1 in the last edition of the regular-season poll. For the fifth time since 2000, the regular-season baseball poll has rated our program No. 1.
The poll is decided by a panel of head coaches from each conference and the Association of Independent Institutions according to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. A points system based on how each voter rates the best teams determine the Top 25. Each first-place vote earns a team 30 points, second place gets 29, and so on.
Previously on March 19th, the Bulldogs dropped their first game in an Appalachian Athletic Conference series to Columbia International University. Nonetheless, picking up their 28th win, the baseball team used its bats early and often to power its way to a 13-3 victory, in 7 innings, over the Cumberland University Phoenixes, a non-conference opponent.
Once again, Tennessee Wesleyan grabs 17 of the 19 first-place votes in the second edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll and remain ranked No. 1 for one more week. As for the rest of the teams, the top three remain intact as Faulkner (Ala.) joins the top five.
